Who Invented The Microphone?: This Article Will Transmit The Answer!

The history of the microphone is quite interesting and began with a man named Emile Berliner. He is the man who invented the microphone and this article will provide you some information about him and the microphone that he invented.

If you have ever wondered who invented the microphone, just read on. In 1876 Emile Berliner returned to a company named Behrend and Co. This company was located and operated in Washington D.C. Emile resumed a clerkship that he had begun earlier with Behrend and Co.

While attending the American centennial celebrations he happened to see a demonstration of the telephone that had been invented by Alexander Graham Bell. Emile was fascinated by the telephone and continued to study it.

As Berliner contemplated the telephone he came to the conclusion that the transmitter was a weakness. Berliner kept working on this problem in the rooming house where he lived and designed a new type of transmitter. He called this a "loose contact" transmitter which was a kind of microphone that increased the volume of the voice as it was transmitted.

This was really a feat when you consider that Berliner had a very limited knowledge of physics and electricity. At this time the American Bell Telephone Company was being formed and they were informed that someone who was entirely unknown in the area had submitted a design to the Patent Office. This design plan covered a new type of transmitter. They were very surprised to say the least.

Thomas Watson was sent as a representative from the ABT Co. to Washington to find out what was going on with this microphone and returned with excellent reports of the invention. Watson also had really good things to say about Berliner. ABT Co. offered to buy the rights to the invention and they also hired Emile as a research assistant.

Berliner worked in New York City and Boston during the following years. He mostly worked on the problems associated with the new telephone industry and also became a talented theoretical electrician.

After Emile moved to Boston he became an American citizen in 1881. He also married a young woman named Cora Adler that same year. His dream was to become an inventor and private researcher and he accomplished this in 1884.

Berliner and his wife relocated back to Washington D.C. and he later developed the gramophone.
